The Bumble Bee is one of the two unique and authentic
timber frame cabins located within the Bear Dance
Lodge with easy access to the observation tower
and Cantina. It features a large stone fireplace,
tile and wood floors, full kitchen, large wooden
dining table, very large and comfortable master
bed room with a queen size bed, and an “old
world” European décor complete with
European antiques and Bavarian Farmers cabinets.
With its European charm, leather furniture, and
large private deck, the Bumble Bee is a favorite
for couples who enjoy the atmosphere of the romantic
regions of the German or Austrian Alps. |

The Dragonfly is one of the two unique and authentic
timber frame cabins located within the Bear Dance
Lodge with easy access to the observation tower
and Cantina. It features a southern European décor,
tile and wood floors, large wooden dining table,
wood stove, full kitchen, and two large bed rooms
– including the popular ground level garden
motif bedroom located directly next to our largest
bathroom (queen size bed). The upper floor has
a comfortable bedroom with a beautiful queen size
Italian designed all iron bed and a large window
overlooking SME’s graceful landscape; also,
a large comfortable sitting room with leather
furniture and a private deck. The Dragonfly is
most popular with couples and small families or
friend groups. |

The
Butterfly is our popular timber frame flat cabin
which sits at the top level of SME’s “salt
box” barn structure. Like all of our cabins,
the entire structure is an authentic timber frame
with exposed white and red oak timbers and artistically
cut joinery. The Butterfly features a queen size
Italian designed iron canopy bed, dining table,
full bath, small walk-in kitchen, tile floors,
leather couch, and a small private deck overlooking
SME’s beautiful natural landscape. With
its tasteful antiques, seclusion, and “old
world” charm, the Butterfly is a favorite
of our many returning couples. |

Have you ever been in a European bar/pub/cantina?
Our private “La Cantina” was inspired
by our many visits to Europe. We wanted to capture
that special atmosphere for our guests that we’ve
only found in the authentic settings of a German
“Stube” or a Tuscan “Cantina”!
“La Cantina” was christened during
our first Riddle Family Reunion in January 2006.
The room was filled with family from New Hampshire,
Massachusetts, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama and
Florida. This special room is available
to our “VIP” guests and adult functions
upon request. It offers guests a unique private
space where they can gather and socialize without
the space limitations of the private cabins. |
Shadow Mountain Escape (SME) The lodge has an
observation tower, which provides a striking view
of the ridge line (Skyline drive) and surrounding
forest for guests to enjoy. SME
currently offers three cabins for rental - two
in the lodge timber frame structure and our another
in our stand-alone "Butterfly loft".
The two cabins in the main structure are named
"Bumble Bee" and "Dragon Fly".
They are two story cabins, each with their own
full bath, kitchen, fireplace or open face wood
stove, deck, and easy access to the outlook tower. |
